Steve Cherundolo’s slight setback was only that.

According to a report from German outlet Kicker, Cherundolo has resumed full training for Hannover 96 about a week after being forced to practice individually. The veteran fullback’s left knee did not respond to a heavier workload as well as the club had hoped last week, but he has been cleared to return to practice with his teammates.

Cherundolo, who has endured his share of knee problems over the past 12 months, has yet to make an appearance for Hannover this season. His next chance to do so will come on Friday against Eintracht Braunschweig.

What do you make of this development? Expect to see Cherundolo make his season debut for Hannover in the near future? Think Friday is too soon for him to return to action?

  1. I doubt it will be the case, but it would sure be helpful if he was recovered enough to play in the next set of friendlies so we can see if he is still good enough to fit into the squad for Brazil.

  2. He has always been one of my favorites, but I can’t imagine him having a full comeback. He had already lost a step in the friendlies in 2011 and now that he is two years further into his 30s and coming off of major knee injuries it just isn’t likely.

  3. Media outlets have stated that Chandler will likely return to the USMNT in the November friendlies. With Cameron considered a CB by Klinsmann, Chandler and Evans are likely at the top of the RB depth chart with Cherundolo, Orozco, Parkhurst and Lichaj chasing in that order.

    • Lichaj’s got to pass Parkhurst at some point, the latter isn’t making the matchday 18, the former starting for a team pushing for promotion. I don’t follow Liga MX as well, so I’m not informed on Orozco’s week-to-week.

  4. A month ago there was a similar story… Hopefully no more setbacks but im not a believer in his WC candidacy. Time to get Lichaj in the squad
