Following the excitement of the first stage of the 2013 Major League Soccer Re-Entry Draft, even more action is expected as we get set for the second stage.

A total of 48 players are available for the second stage of the Re-Entry Draft (3pm, Wednesday), including former MLS MVP winners David Ferreira and Dwayne De Rosario and other veterans such as Heath Pearce, Joe Cannon, Joel Lindpere, and Brian Mullin. The overall draft pool took a hit as there were many movers in the first stage.

Sean Franklin (D.C. United) and Steve Zakuani (Portland) were the first players off the board followed by Corben Bone (Philadelphia), Marc Burch (Colorado), and Bobby Boswell (D.C. United). In addition, a number of players took themselves off the Re-Entry Draft process including Kenny Cooper, Mauro Rosales, and Bobby Convey due to being involved in trades to Seattle, Chivas USA, and New York, respectively.

While a player selected in stage one must be re-signed to a contract at their current salary figures, if a player is selected in the stage two of the draft, teams have seven days to make a “Bona Fide offer” to the player, which could be at a different salary figure.

Teams will select players in the same order as the first stage beginning with D.C. United followed by the Portland Timbers and Toronto FC.

Here’s the list of players available for the second stage of the MLS Re-Entry Draft:

  1. what about Andrew Driver with the Houston Dynamo…I know his option was declined, but is he eligible for the reentry draft? or what happens with him?

  2. As a DCU fan, and assuming we work down their salaries, I’d want:

    – Espindola: Still need capable goal scorers even with EJ
    – Pearce: Defense still needs depth, and I still think Pearce has it in him to be a good player

Lindpere and Toja if we can REALLY reduce their salaries.
