Suarez goes off with four goals vs. Norwich City

Norwich City’s defenders will surely be seeing Luis Suarez in their nightmares tonight.

The Liverpool striker put on a world-class display on Wednesday evening at Anfield, scoring a first half hat-trick and finishing the match with four incredible goals to his name. Curiously, Suarez has become the first ever English Premier League player to score three hat-tricks against one opponent.

Suarez opened up his scoring account with a legitimate goal-of-the-year candidate goal in the 15th minute, unleashing a bending strike with the outside of his right boot from 40 yards away. The Uruguayan then, as if attracted to the ball like a magnet, met a corner kick inside the six yard box and hammered home in the 29th minute to double the lead.

In the 35th minute, Suarez completed his hat-trick with another top-notch goal, flicking the ball over helpless Norwich midfielder Leroy Fer before taking another shot on the half-volley into the bottom corner. Suarez rounded off his spectacular day with a brilliantly taken free kick in the 74th minute.

Here’s a video of Suarez’s goals:

Incredible that Fabian Delph’s winner for Villa has ZERO chance of being GOTW. Any other week and it’s all we’re talking about, but not in a week where Suarez plays Norwich!

  • slowleftarm

Wow that was awesome. Suarez may not be one of the nicest guys but he is really good. After Messi and CR, he is right up there.

I totally hear all of the negative comments about him; I get it. But the man just simply wants to win every time. You (in general) don’t have to like his methods but admire the man’s drive. An absolute true genius of our sport.

  • James

I don’t like him as a person but he is a world class player. A part of the top strikers in the world in my opinion.

      • Louis Z

I guess you have a short memory, that you forgot his purposely hand ball at the 2010 world cup, his constant dives, his biting at defenders and don’t forget calling the N word to opponents. Yep, he is a real good role model.

      • CeezNYRB

I don’t endorse any of his controversial on-field actions but that doesn’t make him a bad person. That just means his competitive drive takes a hold of him. Any professional athlete (soccer or basketball or whatever) will tell you they become a different beast while competing. Away from the pitch, have you heard any negatives about him? Most reports I’ve read/heard have him pegged as a family man who prefers staying home with his wife and kids than going out and living the high life. But that also doesn’t mean he is a good man. The man is not Satan, people! He’s a misunderstood, emotional human being.

As for the hand ball in the World Cup, get over it. Seriously. Do NOT(!) kid yourself. Any professional would have done the same. Every player goes to the World Cup to win, period. If it takes a hand ball and a subsequent send-off to accomplish that, then so be it. You think he didn’t know what was coming when he handled the ball? He accepted the consequences, tried to inspire some emotion in his teammates, and he then walked off. He never complained and neither did anyone else on the Uruguayan national teamn. Remember, it was still up to Asamoah Gyan to convert the penalty kick and he failed. So, move on.

I don’t recall him using the N weird as we know it here in the States… He called him “NEGRO” which if not even close to the N word. Not in direct translation nor in context. It’s like saying white guy…and I believe the way he said it according to reports was in his dumb attempt to get in Evra’s head by saying something about blacks. Like saying “blacks have a great history of bring mistreated” and before you go challenging my Spanish, know that it’s native not learned as a second language

      • louisz

You are correct, in the spanish dictionary there is no word for the N word. The word “Negro” means black as in the color or the color of skin. The issue was how it was used in the context of his comment.

Thankfully I put him in my fantasy team and gave him the armband. Another day, another 48 points.

  • Bean

His name is Suarez, he wears the famous Red

I just can’t get enough, I just can’t get enough

When he scores a volley or when he scores a head

I just cant get enough, I just can’t get enough

He scores a goal and the Kop go wild

And I just can’t seem to get enough Suarez

    Luis Suarez!

    • David JS

Certainly on the shortlist, but Yaya and Kun Aguero both would be above Suarez for me at least. No doubt Suarez is absolutely sublime on his day though.

  • LemmyATL

Holy bejeesuz!! I’m gonna tell Wynalda about this guy. We gotta get him in Atlanta! He’ll help us knock off the Cosmos next year!

  • Eugene

That’s ridiculous. This guy will be amazing to watch during the WC next year, he’s going to break out to a whole other level.

  • DR7_Liverpool_

definitely a game to remember, especially after last week’s loss. Ruddy will have some nightmares about those goals for while.

Luis is on fire at the moment and will be crucial to our success with Danny out injured. YNWA!!!!

  • burnsbabe

Honestly, the third goal is even sweeter for me than the first. Yeah, the first is at incredibly long range and place very well, but the footwork on the third, the little chip, and then slow rolling the shot, brilliant!
