Hannover parts ways with head coach Slomka

Hannover 96 v Standard Liege - UEFA Europa League Round of 16

Just halfway through the 2013-2014 Bundesliga campaign, Hannover 96 has decided it’s time for a head coaching change.

The club announced on Friday that manager Mirko Slomka had agreed to mutually terminate his contract, ending his three and a half year period as the club’s head coach. Hannover has struggled so far this season, sitting in 13th place with five wins in 17 games overall. The club has not yet named a replacement.

During his time as head coach, Slomka lead Hannover to two UEFA Europa League berths and in the 2011/2012 season, the team advanced to the Europa League quarterfinal round. Slomka also handed U.S. Men’s National Team right back Steve Cherundolo the captain’s armband back when he took over in 2010.

Slomka is the fourth manager in the Bundesliga to lose his job this season.

What do you think of this news? Who do you think should take Slomka’s place as Hannover manager? How does this impact Cherundolo’s future?

Bob Badley! No seriously, Bob Bradley. However, it is preferred that they speak German. Pep learned it in under a year. Cherundolo can help him! It’s a pipedream I know……………….

I just downloaded this app yesterday. It’s brilliant, as was your suggestion. Cheers!

Pep was groomed by the likes of Cruyff, played at the highest level as a player, and had tactically rich understanding of the game prior to getting his coaching gig with Barca. BB is a product of US college system and is basically a bunker and counter coach – those are not in high demand in Bundesliga.

wasnt he like their manager for the past 4 seasons?

its amazing. Bundesliga they keep managers for at least over a season

in the PL they fire them after 12 games and say a bad run of 4 games, and then that replacement is fired after 5 games

Manager business is tough. He’ll be OK. On to the next. Manager’s know the risk when they sign on the dotted line, so it’s not unusual, nor something to be surprised in this day and age.
