Report: Kaiserslautern to release Wooten

Andrew Wooten Kaiserslautern (Kaiserslautern)

By FRANCO PANIZO

It sounds like Andrew Wooten will be looking for a new place to call home this winter.

According to a German report, Wooten is one of four players that Kaiserslautern will soon release as part of the club’s plans to reshape its roster during the winter transfer window. Kaiserslautern are currently in fourth place in the 2. Bundesliga standings, three points shy of the promotion playoff spot.

Wooten, a 24-year-old forward who formerly represented the U.S. on the Under-23 Men’s National Team, has been with Kaiserslautern since 2009. He signed a three-year deal with the club near the conclusion of the 2011-12 season, but has made just one start in four appearances since.

What do you make of Kaiserslautern releasing Wooten? Where would you like to see him go next? Should MLS make an effort to sign him?

    • You may want to try reading comprehension, but here are the last three years of his playing time for the first team, but not any for the reserve side which plays at the fourth level:

      2011/12 Kaiserslautern Bundesliga
7 games, 1 goal (all at the end of the season)

2012/13 Loan to Sandhausen 2. Bundesliga
      29 games, 7 goals, 3 assists

      2013 Kaiserslautern 2. Bundesliga
5 games (all at the beginning of the season under the old coach)

  1. If you are going to steal this from me off of another board, you might want to get all the information. Thanks to M Vann for adding some of the missing information.

  2. Surprised nowhere did it mention Wooten had a very successful loan stint at SV Sandhausen last season in the 2nd Bundesliga. He was one of the very few bright spots on a team that was relegated. He was brought in as a forward but quickly shifted to the wing and was a revelation of sorts. Wooten’s looked very comfortable on the wing, despite limited experience in that role. He played 20+ games and scored 7-8 goals. It was thought Wooten was going to be given a chance at K-town in that position. As is the business of football, a manager, (Foda) was fired and new one (Runjaic) was brought in. Runjaic doesn’t share the same thoughts on Wooten as Foda. That’s not a flection on Wooten but rather a reflection of preference. It happens. Wooten proved he can play in the 2nd Bundesliga and has continued to score goal for 1FCK’s reserves in the Regionaliga. He should have no problem latching into a 2nd Bundesliga side, IMO.

    • well said. I try to stay current with his development. I thought he had what it takes but like you said, sometimes is a matter of where one lands and under who. The few games that I saw him play RW, I thought he was tailored made for the position, his defensive work was very good considering he was CF. Not too many people remember him when was at the Reginalia he was at par with Boyd when he was there. I hope is career takes a turn for the better because he is a very good player.
