Real Salt Lake goalkeeper Nick Rimando claimed his second-straight MLS Save of the Year award Thursday.

The 33-year-old goalkeeper won the award for his double save against the Colorado Rapids in Week 23 that denied Jaime Castrillón’s snap header before sprawling the other way to tip the rebound away. The award was determined through an online fan vote.

Rimando won the fan voting with just under 30 percent the votes. Los Angeles Galaxy goalkeeper Jamie Penedo finished second with more than 24 percent of the vote while Portland Timbers’ Donovan Ricketts and FC Dallas’ Raúl Fernández came in third and fourth place, respectively, with more than 22 percent of the votes each.

  1. Not bad, but I seem to recall an even more impressive double save. Also Penedo’s save was the most spectacular I’ve seen in years. Love Nicky, but Penedo’s play deserved the award.
