With much of the world on break for the holiday period, the British isles once more host the best soccer being played around the globe this weekend.

An exciting Boxing Day schedule of matches now leads to a quick turnaround for 12 of the 20 teams in the English Premier League as they have to play twice in 72 hours. On top of that, every team that was on the road on Boxing Day must travel again.

The highlight of this weekend’s matches in the EPL is certainly Chelsea hosting Liverpool on Sunday, with both teams in the thick of the battle not only for a place in the UEFA Champions League but also potentially for the league title. Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has already stated that he hopes Liverpool’s on-fire forward Luis Suarez won’t be available as he’s scored 19 goals in 13 games this season.

Of course, the last time these two teams met Suarez bit the arm of Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic, earning the Uruguayan a 10-match ban and fine.

Other matches to keep an eye on this weekend include Arsenal’s trip to Newcastle, Cardiff City’s first match without Malky Mackay, and Everton’s match at home against Southampton. The Toffees will be trying to rebound from a tough defeat at home against Sunderland.

    • The Boston Globe says that Manchester United vs. Norwich will be on NBCSN at 10 AM Saturday, I’m not sure what Premier League Extra Time is.

      • FiOS has a game listed but no info. I can’t imagine they wouldn’t be showing the ManU game. Call me cynical but the money trail leads down that path….
