USL Pro announced its 2014 schedule on Thursday, and it will run from March 22 to Sept. 7.

Each of the 14 teams in the league will play a 28-game regular season before the playoffs commence, and the top eight finishers in the league’s single-table format will reach the postseason. Every USL Pro squad will once again play a pair of regular season games against MLS Reserve teams this year as part of the two leagues’ partnership.

The opening game of the campaign will see reigning champion Orlando City SC visit the Charleston Battery and the final fixture of the regular season will have the Wilmington Hammerheads FC at the Rochester Rhinos.

The postseason will kick off on Sept. 12 and the championship bout is set for some time between Sept. 26 and Sept. 28.

Some of the other more intriguing regular season games include LA Galaxy II’s debut vs. Los Angeles Blues on March 22, Orlando City’s May 21 clash with Charlotte Eagles in a rematch of last season’s championship match, and the first meeting between expansion sides OKC Energy FC and Sacramento Republic FC on June 14.

LA Galaxy II, OKC Energy FC and Sacramento Republic FC are the three new clubs that will play in USL Pro this season, while Antigua Barracuda FC and VSI Tampa Bay FC will not return in 2014 after playing in the league last year.

  1. I was looking at the USL games that Phoenix FC plays between May and Sept. There are about 10 games played in Peoria and although the games will be played a twilight/dusk (around 730MST) expect the temps in July and Aug to be around 100+ AT NIGHT. Yeah, I think I’ll go see the LAG-2 play in April in Peoria and in June/Jul/Aug, sit here in SE AZ where temps will be around in the 60-70’s at night.

  2. Can someone explain how the reserve teams work in USL? I understand LA Galaxy II is a full-fledged team so they play a full season slate of games.

But a reserve team, they play a certain number of games against USL teams and the rest against other reserves? But the maximum number of games is 15 (or something like that)?

    • Yup. If you arnt sending 4 players (or 2 in the case of portland & sj) to a usl club then you play a in the MLS reserve league which includes 2 games vs USL PRO teams and 10 or so games vs other MLS reserve teams.
