Taking advantage of Club Tijuana’s link with Liga Ascenso club Dorados deĀ Sinaloa, Paul Arriola spent the early part of this week training and eventually making his Dorados debut in memorable fashion.

The 18-year-old American forward started and played all 90 minutes for Dorados in their Copa MX match at Estudiantes Tecos in Guadalajara, scoring a goal in the 53rd minute to put his side up two goals. Arriola took a pass just outside the box, dribbled forward, and slotted home through the goalkeeper’s legs.

Arriola’s goal was his first in the Clausura season. Though he still wears No. 47 for Xolos, the American youth international has been an integral part of new Tijuana head coach Cesar Farias’ plans, coming off the bench in the final ten minutes of Xolos’ memorable win last Friday against Club America.

Here’s a video of Arriola’s goal against Estudiantes Tecos (goal begins at :29):

  1. I watched parts of the Correcaminos – Puebla Copa MX game and didn’t see Beasley there. Other than the goalie, I didn’t recognize the others and probably was their reserve or 2nd team that lost.

  2. good for him. Alejandro Guido and Stevie Rodriguez also played in that game.

surprised there is no post that Torres played 90 minutes and scored the only goal in Tigres 1-0 Copa MX win. Uvaldo Luna and Juan Pablo Ocegueda also played in that game.

and lastly, Danny Cuevas played the second half of his game.

  3. Here was my reaction from reading this article:
“Great, Arriola scored for Xolos against Dorados”
“Wait, he scored for Dorados? When did Arriola get loaned to Dorados?”
“For how long is this loan? Why was he loaned?”
“Wait, he is still part of Xolos? How is he playing for 2 clubs? Huh?”

    • It’s actually a pretty good system.
If a player is coming back from injury they send him to their second division team for a couple of games to help him get up to speed.
They also use that team to get the youngsters some playing time.

      • Cap tie him to the national team? I don’t see how.
This is Mexico’s version of the Open Cup. Not related to the national team at all.

      • Pardon me if you are joking, but I think he meant does it cup tie him, making him unable to play for Tijuana for the remainder of this competition. That is the reason why clubs that loan players out in England short-term make it a stipulation that they don’t play in the FA Cup for said team.

      • Is there a reason they are not playing in Copa MX? Fixture congestion? Didn’t know you could refuse to play in a cup sanctioned by its FA.
