USWNT sets friendly against Russia in Florida

The calendar for the U.S. Women’s National Team is filling up fast as they plan to face Russia in next month.

The USWNT will host Russia at 3:30 p.m. ET on Feb. 8 at FAU Stadium in Boca Raton, Fla., U.S. Soccer announced Monday.

It’s unclear what to expect from Russia as the USWNT has not faced them in more than a decade. The two sides last met on Sept. 29, 2002, where the U.S. won 5-1.

The USWNT has an all-time 5-0-1 record against Russia. The USWNT is ranked No. 1 in the latest FIFA Women’s World Rankings while Russia is No. 21.

Russia didn’t make it out of group play at last summer’s UEFA Women’s Championship, falling to France 3-1 and then tying both England and Spain, 1-1 each.

The announced friendly wasn’t exactly a secret through, as Russia’s federation had included meetings with the U.S. on Feb. 8 and Feb. 12 on their calendar of Russian women’s national team games. The calendar does not specify locations or times and U.S. Soccer has not confirmed the Feb. 12 match yet.

The USWNT will start their 2014 with a friendly against Canada on Jan. 31 in Frisco, Texas.

  1. Should be interesting to see who Sermani trusts going into the new year. Although, I wish they would just play an inter-squad scrimmage instead of a foreign team. That would be a better game given the ridiculous depth of the team.
