D.C. United unveiled new uniforms last weekend, showing off a new look. That look could change even more amid reports that the club is close to landing a new primary jersey sponsor.

According to the Washington Post, D.C. United is nearing a deal with Leidos Inc. as the club’s primary sponsor.

Leidos, which used to be known as Science Applications International Corporation (or SAIC), operates asĀ a government contractor, specializing in national security, health and an engineering solutions company.

The company split into two parts in 2013 and Leidos moved their part of the company to Reston, Va., just 23 miles west of Washington.

The report of the two sides nearing a deal comes just a few days after D.C. United unveiled their new uniform’s for the 2014 season at an event Saturday for season ticket holders at Pinstripes, a bowling alley and bistro, at Georgetown in Washington.

The new uniforms were revealed without a sponsor logo on them, but should the club agree to a deal with Leidos then the company would feature their logo on the jersey and other platforms.

D.C. United declined comment when contacted about the report.

If the deal is finalized, Leidos would fill the void left by former Black-and-Red sponsor, German automaker Volkswagen. Volkswagen was D.C. United’s sponsor from 2008 to this past season, 2013.

Sponsorship with Leidos is unrelated to naming rights for D.C. United’s proposed stadium at Buzzard Point in Washington, according to the Washington Post report.

Leidos’ logo is black, white and purple and it is unclear if they would change a color in their logo to match D.C. United’s uniforms; similar to how Volkswagen removed the blue from their logo for the uniforms.

D.C. United is one of four MLS clubs still without a jersey sponsor for the upcoming season. The others are theĀ Colorado Rapids, Houston Dynamo and San Jose Earthquakes.

  1. Pinstripes is a dual gender strip club in Atlanta, so it gave me pause for a moment when I read the new uniforms were “unveiled” at a place by the same name.

  2. Maybe FCNY has so much money they could be the uniform sponsor for DC United? They could put FCNY on the front of the DC United shirts.

I think that would be a great way to break into the league.

    • Yes, let’s lump all government contractors into one pot and throw that pot under the bus with the other criminals. Thankfully, nearly all of those former SAIC contractors are far smarter than you are….

      • Now, don’t get your panties in an uproar, timmy. I’m sure all the peeps over at SAIC are nice. Especially when they’re torturing innocent people (some not so innocent, but its still wrong), helping to bomb yet another country that dares to sell its oil in any currency other than the U.S. dollar, or helping to corrupt our entire Congress with jobs in their districts and those little envelopes of cash they get on the 1st of each month.
