Things just keep getting worse and worse for Manchester United.

Olympiakos left United in a hole after the first leg of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 series, stunning the Red Devils, 2-0, at Karaiskaki Stadium in Athens, Greece on Tuesday.

The goals came courtesy of Alejandro Dominguez and Costa Rican international Joel Campbell, who scored on a splendid individual effort from distance in the second half.

The defeat leaves United manager David Moyes under more pressure and the club on the cusp of being eliminated from the knockout phase of the tournament in a season that has been more than forgettable for the Red Devils.

United will not have too much time to dwell on the defeat. They will play two league matches before hosting Olympiakos in the decisive leg at Old Trafford on March 19.

In the day’s earlier match, Borussia Dortmund used two early goals to pave the way for a 4-2 road victory over Zenit St Petersburg. Henrik Mkhitaryan opened the scoring in the fourth minute and Marco Reus added another goal seconds later, giving the German club a dream start.

Zenit St Petersburg refused to roll over and they pulled within one goal on two separate occasions thanks to strikes from Oleg Shatov and Brazilian striker Hulk.

Dortmund were too strong, however, and they used a Robert Lewandowski brace in the second half to take a two-goal lead into the second leg in Germany on March 19.
