If quality of goals is at all a measure, the Houston Dynamo look to already be in regular-season form.

A pair of long distance strikes from Brian Ownby and Omar Cummings led the Dynamo to a 2-0 win Monday over PDL side FC Tucson in a contest that included a penalty save, a red card and two wonder goals.

The Dynamo gave much of it’s first team some playing time in the first half, including on-loan Tony Cascio, who was the lone holdover in the second stanza.

Goalkeeper Michael Lisch was also able to come to his own rescue after conceding a penalty halfway through the second half. Lisch dove to his right to stop the ensuing penalty and preserve the clean sheet.

Here is a rundown of other MLS pre-season results from Monday and the weekend:

FC DALLAS FALL TO BK HACKEN IN REMATCH

After knocking off BK Hacken by a 3-0 scoreline on Friday, FC Dallas fell to the Swedish side, 3-1 Monday in Dubai, despite a Fabian Castillo opener.

Castillo was able to score early for the MLS side, but Dallas failed to find a goal from that point on.

The match took place at 6 a.m. Dallas time and was not streamed.

CHIVAS USA TOP OC BLUES

Chivas USA’s Matthew Fondy was able to score against his old club in Monday’s 2-0 win vs. the OC Blues.

Fondy, who played 29 times for what was known as the LA Blues, doubled Chivas USA’s advantage in the 27th minute after Thomas McNamara found an opened just 17 minutes in.

The match, which was closed to the public, took place at StubHub Center.

TRIALIST PARSEMAIN SCORES AGAIN AS SOUNDERS TOP WHITECAPS

Seattle Sounders trialist Kevin Parsemain continues to impress Sigi Schmid’s club, as the Martinique international was able to pick up his second goal of the preseason in Seattle’s 2-1 victory over Vancouver on Sunday.

Parsemain, who has scored two goals this preseason, comes to Seattle by way of the Martinique Championnat National, Martinique’s top division. The 25-year old has been capped 32 times and has scored 23 goals, most memorably a penalty against Mexico in last year’s Gold Cup.

Joining Parsemain on Seattle’s score sheet was Andy Rose, whose 50th-minute goal gave the Sounders the victory over their Northwest rivals.

Vancouver was able to close the gap in the 78th when Carlyle Mitchell was able to find the back of the net off of a Nicolas Mezquida corner.

With the victory, the Sounders lifted their preseason record to 3-0-1.

SHORT-HANDED RSL SETTLE FOR DRAW vs. UC-IRVINE

New midfielder Luke Mulholland scored Salt Lake’s loan goal Saturday, as the MLS side had to settle for a draw with UC Irvine.

Mulholland, who played for NASL side Tampa Bay last season, scored in the 15th minute for his new club. However, Irvine was able to find an equalizer in the 83rd.

RSL played without much of their first team and the trio of Nick Rimando, Luis Gil and Kyle Beckerman will return Monday from United States National Team camp.

TIMBERS TIE SOUNDERS

Portland was able to hold local rivals Seattle to a draw Saturday, as the Timbers were able to pick up their second shutout in as many games. Donovan Rickets and Andrew Weber combined for the shutout.

The game was contested with three, 30-minute periods and saw Portland use 23 different players including most of its first team.

ZARDES NETS WINNER AS GALAXY BEAT FC SHURAK

Gyasi Zardes and Samuel were able to fire LA past reigning Armenian league champions FC Shurak Saturday at StubHub Center.

Samuel was able to score his first Galaxy goal to equalize in the first half, as Omar Gonzalez found the Brazilian after a Landon Donovan free kick.

Zardes found the winner for LA in the 75th minute, as a blocked shot fell to the 22-year-old before he was able to fire from 20-yards out for the game winner.

YOUNGSTERS LEAD FIRE PAST D.C. UNITED

Chicago boasted a side featuring Jeff Larentowicz, Patrick Nyarko and Chris Rolfe, but a pair of youngsters, Harry Shipp and Grant Ward, were able to find goals in Saturday’s matchup with D.C. United.

Shipp was able to score just minutes after entering the contest, while Ward, a 19-year-old trialist, was able to score on a Shipp assist in the 80th.

Comments

    • Teams sometimes give their internationals a break (into nominal preseason) if they are just coming off extended international duty. The otherwise awful and stilted Being Liverpool showed the staggered approach LFC was using to Euro 2012 returnees. The prospects are out hustling for spots while the internationals are playing golf or goofing around.

It’s a long season. If it was an isolated friendly they’d probably be back in camp but they basically spent all January training their tails off and playing scrimmages and a game with the USA.
