Liga MX Round 6: A Look Ahead

After the excitement of midweek Copa MX games, which saw three wins for Liga Ascenso sides against top-flight opposition, Liga MX returns on Friday evening with several teams facing important weekend matches.

Club Tijuana host Monterrey at the Estadio Caliente on Friday evening and will hope to cement their place among the leading pack, rather than being dragged back into the middle of the table.

The contrast between Xolos’ home form and away form is stark – it’s nearly a year since they lost in their own ground, but more than a year since they recorded a victory on the road. Rayados remain inconsistent, and will want to offer a better account of themselves than in the Clasico Regiomontano last weekend.

Rayados’ cross-city rivals Tigres UANL face Santos Laguna in the Estadio Universitario in Monterrey. With only one win between them in 2014, both sides need the three points to abate their critics and ease the pressure on their managers.

League leaders Cruz Azul travel to Cancun to face Atlante on Sunday evening. Atlante have improved immeasurably this season, but Los Cementeros will be confident of maintaining their unbeaten start to the Clausura.

Other highlights include Pumas UNAM attempting to win their third-straight game against underperforming champions Club Leon, and the potential debut of former Vancouver Whitecaps player Camilo Sanvezzo for Queretaro when they host Veracruz.
