The 2014 World Cup is just around the corner. The 2014 World Cup video game is even closer.

EA Sports announced on Thursday that it will continue its tradition of making World Cup-focused video games by releasing 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil this spring. The game will hit stores in the United States and rest of North America on April 15 and in Europe two days later. It will only be made for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles.

The game will include 21 new stadiums, including all 12 Brazilian stadiums that will host World Cup games this summer; over 15 hours of added in-game commentary; and new control systems that EA says will make for more responsive dribbling and pinpoint passing. It will also have new set piece tactics, Adidas ball physics and penalty kick animations for both the shooters and goalkeepers.

In total, 203 of the teams sanctioned by FIFA will be playable in 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil, including the United States and Mexico. There are also 7,469 players in the game and 19 officially licensed managers.

You can see all the features that the game includes here.

  1. I am so pissed this will not be on PS4. It is the reason I got a PS4 this early on. FIFA 14 is a real nice, smooth step-up from current gen — and then they don’t put this game on PS4. Not pleased. But I’m a sucker so I’ll probably buy it anyway.

      • Anyone else run into the typical @$$holes on PS4 who talk smack because you’re playing with the USMNT? I’ve ran into quite a few but seem to be less than PS3 as of now.

  2. i cant wait for the new game! does anyone know if they have playoff games, e.g. mexico vs new zealand this year?
i really fell in love with soccer during the 2006 world cup, along with two of my best friends. we played the holy hell out of the video game. playing three together, and alone, we all won the world cup on world class difficulty (before legendary) with some of the worst teams in the game, usually drunk. co-op was the best of times, and the worst of times, but it really strengthened our friendship. i mean, dialogue can go crazy places when you are stone drunk at 4 o’clock in the morning, in the semifinals, on your 8th run, after being knocked out of the group stage the 7 previous attempts.
on another note, i’m glad they didn’t overextend themselves trying to make it for the new consoles, although that’s easy to say when i don’t own one now, or for the foreseeable future.

  3. I like the presentation of the World Cup editions. There will probably be a captain mode which will be the career mode. You just make yourself a player/coach. The qualifying mode stinks because it doesn’t replicate the right format, but I like playing the tournament in the online format. I will buy it.

    • It doesn’t bother me that it won’t be on next gen, but I don’t quite understand it either. Maybe there will be a next gen version at some point, once there’s a larger installed userbase. There’s still people here who want PS4s but can’t buy them. Plenty of XB1s though.

  4. I loved the last edition of this game. I’m an unabashed international soccer fan, so my first love in soccer will always be the World Cup.
My only complaint is that even though all nations are playable, depending on the region, you can’t play as anyone in the “Road to the World Cup” portion. I enjoy taking minnow nations and getting them into the WC.

    • Awesome, so it must have a feature where you can choose Qatar, nationalize at least 10 Brazilian players who are not cap-tied over the course of a few months, and qualify comfortably. You know, kind of how they will do for Russia 2018.

  5. Have they added a feature where your group game may be postponed due to an incomplete stadium, a stadium that did not pass inspection, or a stadium collapse?

  6. One game a year is enough as it is. They should have added any World Cup feautures into this year’s edition. Sorry, EA, you already get enough of my money.

  7. no XBOX One? sounds sweet though, love these. currently in the group stage, with the USA, of the 2018 World Cup in my FIFA14 career mode. 4.5 stars, Villarreal is an 86, Gil is an 83, M. Lopez is an 81, Shea is an 81, Agudelo is an 83, Brooks is an 84, and Yedlin is an 81. destroyed France and Romania in the first two games.

defending champs of the 2014 World Cup too! if only……

  8. I think the men in blazers guys did alot of the commentary, as they were talking about it on there podcast. I might have to get a 360 just for this( alittle late I know)

    • previous editions are literally just the Road to the World Cup. so all of qualifying and then the tournament itself. usually there is an option to play it with the draw as it is in real life too.

career mode is only available in the full version of FIFA, i think.
