SBI MLS Goal of the Week: Kyle Beckerman

Comments

  1. I think Beckerman is in Kilnsmann’s squad for the reason he has been so many times already: He does exactly what Klinsmann asks, and Klinsmann knows exactly what he’s going to get from KB. It’s clear that he’s playing the way he’s being asked to play when with the USMNT rather than playing his “natural” game because he plays so differently than he does with RSL. He’s much more attack minded with RSL, supporting Morales as he flares to wide areas.

    • I still think Mo Edu has a chance to take his spot, although Mo might back up Bradley instead of Jones. But that might just be wishful thinking hoping for a Union player on the WC squad.

      • I disagree, I think Beckerman is the back up to Bradley because of how the US plays out of the back at times. Beckerman has been the only other player that’s shown some ability to drop back and pick up the ball off the back line. His back passing drives me crazy but it’s far better then watching Jones appear to have no idea when someone is pressing him from behind.

    • I’ve been liking the way Edu has been playing this year already, but I still think he may be behind Beckerman in the depth charts.

  2. (as much as I begrudgingly don’t want to admit this…cuz I was hoping Danny Will would catch you, but his latest injury probably won’t let him…STRIKE UP THE BAND)…

    YOU ARE GOING TO BRAZILLLL!

    YOU ARE GOING TO BRAZILLLL.

    YOU ARE GOING,

    YOU ARE GOING,

    YOU ARE GOING TO BRAZILLLLLLL!

    • Beckerman will make it unless he gets injured himself and will provide good cover for j jones and could see time at the end of a match or two in different scenerios.

  3. In other news, Julian Green given permission from Bayern to train with the USMNT for their friendly against Mexico. Promising news.

    • Say what? If true this is awesome news? Is green interested in playin in brazil and if so maybe Klinsi is considering him for the pre WC camp and a chance to make the final cut.

  4. Franco: when you post a photo and a video, it would be helpful if the kit of the main character matched. You showed Beckerman in his “claret and cobalt” clearly celebrating something (his goal?) in a match versus white kits, but in the video (where players are small and therefore not readily recognizable), red-attired figures defend against a player in white who scores a goaloso—and who turns out to be Kyle Beckerman.

(Yes, on closer inspection I see that in the photo, Kyle played against Keane’s Galaxy—but why force your readers to “closer inspection”?)

      • Actually, I do, since the teams pretty much had the opposite colors on. It confused me for a second. The comment above was the first thing I thought.

      • Yea, not a huge deal, but a bit of an editing mistake that probably should have been caught.

    • Appreciate the feedback. Sometimes there are no pictures available that match that of the game. Look at the image on MLS’s video of the goal. Not only is Beckerman wearing the home jersey, but it is the one from last season.

It’s not ideal, but just part of how things work. There is not always an image of every player that fits, especially not this early into the season.

      Again, appreciate the feedback.
