After the Liga MX sides comfortably dispatched their MLS opposition in the CONCACAF Champions League, domestic football returns this weekend with Round Twelve of the Clausura.

The tie of the round sees the league leaders Cruz Azul travel to Club Leon for a battle between two of the strongest Liga MX sides. Both teams had competitive fixtures in mid-week, with Cruz Azul emerging 5-1 victors against reigning MLS champions Kansas City and Leon dispatching Ecuadorian league leaders Emelec 3-0.

Fortunately for the spectacle, both sides played their continental games at home, meaning neither will be suffering from travel-fatigue come Saturday evening. Mariano Pavone was the star of the show for Cruz Azul, scoring a hat trick against Kansas after only managing two league goals all season, while Leon’s main man Carlos Pena also got on the scoresheet against Emelec, adding his team’s third five minutes before the end.

Given there is only a four point spread between third-placed Pumas UNAM and twelfth-placed Club Tijuana, Leon desperately need three points to keep alive their dream of retaining the title.

Elsewhere, there is a Guadalajara derby between Atlas and Chivas, Queretaro will hope to end their miserable form when they travel to Tigres UANL, and Club America host Veracruz in the Azteca.
