AS Roma and Liverpool will return to Boston’s Fenway Park for a July 23 exhibition match, Fenway Sports Management announced Wednesday.

The two clubs previously met on U.S. soil in 2012, playing in front of more than 37,000 fans at the home of Major League Baseball’s Boston Red Sox. The meeting is also a rematch of the 1984 European Cup final.

The match kicks off the clubs’ 2014 preseason tours as part of the Guinness International Champions Cup.

“Liverpool FC and AS Roma are two of the most highly regarded clubs in all of football, and we’re thrilled to welcome them back to Boston and showcase some of the world’s top talent playing the ‘Beautiful Game’ right here on the pitch at Fenway Park,” said Fenway Sports Group Chairman Tom Werner in a press release. “The atmosphere at their first Fenway match was electric, and with both clubs’ passionate supporters, tremendous worldwide following and strong ties to the City, the rematch is sure to be memorable.”

The United States tour will mark Roma’s third consecutive trip stateside, including a matchup with the 2013 MLS All-Stars, while Liverpool will return after spending last summer in Asia and Australia. Both teams have heavy ties to the area through Boston-based ownership groups.

“I look forward to Roma returning to the U.S. for a third straight summer,” said AS Roma President James Pallotta. “In particular, I am excited for the rematch with Liverpool at Fenway Park – it will no doubt be an exciting match against a great opponent in a historic stadium.”

Roma will also take on Manchester United (July 26 in Denver), Real Madrid (July 29 in Dallas) and F.C. Inter (Aug. 2 in Philadelphia) during their American stay, while Liverpool will battle Olympiacos (July 27 in Chicago), Manchester City (July 30 in New York) and AC Milan (Aug. 2 in Charlotte) during their time in the country.
