Chivas USA Rookie Thomas McNamara wasn’t a first-round pick in the 2014 MLS Draft, but he played like one in his professional debut.
The 23-year-old second-round selection scored Chivas USA’s second goal in a 3-2 victory against the Chicago Fire. McNamara was a handful throughout the match, and his overall performance helped him earn SBI MLS Rookie of the Week honors.
McNamara beat out Sounders’ forward Sean Okoli for this week’s nod. Okoli’s cross paved the way for Chad Barrett’s stoppage time winner against Sporting KC. Montreal’s Eric Miller also turned in an encouraging rookie debut.
What did you think of McNamara’s performance? Which rookie stood out to you in MLS Week 1?

Yeah, the guy looks like the real deal. The Goats found a solid addition.
I saw Chivas in preseason in Las Vegas. McNamara moves very well off the ball, he has a high soccer IQ (unlike some here), and combines well with others. Instigator of offense.
Looks like Macklemore’s put on a few.
guy looks a little like Clint Mathis
dat hair
I envy his hairdo.

Love that movie.
Good game for McNamara and surprisingly good performance from Chivas. The question remains: If Chivas earns three points at home and no one is there to witness it, does it actually happen? Paradox. At least McNamara’s hair makes perfect sense…
Well played
“The 23-year-old second-round selection scored Chivas USA’s second goal in a 3-2 victory against Chivas USA.” Not that impressive considering he was playing against his own team.
ha. love it.
I wish Lionel Messi would’ve cut his hair like this! They could’ve looked like brothers!
