The San Antonio Scorpions’ recent addition of Eric Hassli was a sign of things to come.

The Scorpions announced on Thursday that they have signed two more former MLS players, agreeing to deals with attacking midfielder Josue Soto and right back Jonathan Borrajo.

The 25-year-old Soto, who previously played in NASL with the Scorpions, spent last season with Chivas USA. Borrajo, 26, was with the New York Red Bulls in 2012 before playing for Norwegian first division side Mjondalen IF last year.

“Since his first season with our organization, Josue has been a player we rate highly,” said San Antonio head coach Alen Marcina. “After another season plying his trade in MLS, he’s continued to demonstrate consistent growth and increasing potential. We’re very pleased to add such a versatile midfielder with great vision, distribution and creativity.”

“Jonathan is a player we identified in our off season who has prior experience playing for the New York Red Bulls and professionally in Norway,” added Marcina. “He provides width and pace to our right side and he’s a dynamic defender that we’re delighted to have join the squad.”

San Antonio now has a 19-player roster littered with current or former MLS players, including goalkeeper Jeremy Vuolo, on-loan midfielder Sam Garza, and veteran centerback Julius James.

The Scorpions most recently signed Hassli, a former Designated Player.

What do you think of the Scorpions adding Soto and Borrajo? See either of them earning a starting role? Like the team that San Antonio has constructed for the upcoming NASL season?

  1. I think San Antonio is going to make the jump to MLS as their fans obviously want. There will definitely be three Texas teams and I think San Antonio will edge out Austin even though other than UT it would be the only game in town and having just come back from SXSW that city is full of soccer loving hipsters. Sadly four TX teams is probably too much to ask.

    • After poaching Hans Denissen, There’s a seed for a burgeoning rivalry between the Cosmos and Scorpions.

Gotta get rid of the Scorpions part inevitably though

    • Still think Tampa Bay is more poised to challenge than San Antonio…they have a lot of new players to gel together. Might be a closer rival in Fall. Spring will be all Cosmos.

  2. The Scorpions beat Houston 2-0 today. After draw with FC Dallas earlier, this is confirmation that SA is MLS ready! Good chance they would win MLS Cup this year if they were in the league now.

      • It was obviously sarcasm, but…

As a Houston fan, I’m somewhat concerned our reserves score in this match. I wouldn’t expect that backline to get a clean sheet, but the fact that the bench after plenty of rest couldn’t score worries me a bit.
