This Weekend's Soccer on TV

It’s said that a season is like a roller coaster of emotions, but for Bayern Munich, they’ve experienced such highs and lows in just one week.

Last Tuesday the club advanced in the UEFA Champions League with a strong performance at home to hold off Arsenal, but the club were stunned to see former president Uli Hoeness submit his resignation on Friday after being convicted of tax fraud.

Now, the German giants face a difficult test in Bayer Leverkusen, who are currently in third place and are battling Borrusia Dortmund for second in the league. Bayern’s resolve will surely be tested in this must-watch match on Saturday.

In England, Sunday will be a full day for plenty of viewers with both Liverpool taking on Manchester United before Arsenal visits Tottenham. The Reds are looking to stun David Moyes at Old Trafford, while both Arsenal and Spurs hope to pick up the pieces after defeats and exits in their respective European cups.

In France, Paris Saint-Germain host AS Saint-Etienne, a team that the Parisians have struggled to beat in recent times. PSG has only defeated Saint Etienne once in their last five meetings in all competitions, carrying a record of 1-3-1 since November 2012.

Other matches to keep an eye on this weekend are Borussia Dortmund vs. Borussia Mönchengladbach, Malaga vs. Real Madrid, and the Seattle Sounders vs. Toronto FC.

The Liverpool-Manchester United game is also on Telemundo, which is important for those of us lads who don’t have cable TV.

  • Quit whining about soccer in the US

A MLS mention ! Pretty small, but I will take it…for those of us going to the game it will be a absolute blast !

I do feel with Ives not posting much on this site, it is really becoming a site for the casual fan, guys who only watch top Euro teams….hopefully I am proven wrong. Maybe a preview for the weekend ?

  • Paul6

The two MLS games on monday that i can actually watch are on at the same time. That sucks. And, both should be good games.

  • ZTom

All the fanbois who like to imagine that “all the leagues” are full of foreign players like MLS need
to turn in to what is perhaps the closest comparison to the MLS, the A-League of Australia.
This is the league that I like to watch (outside of English PL and Championship).
I realize that the matches start late and that the fanbois will have to ask their mommies for
permission to stay-up late, but what you will learn is this:

    a) All matches are played on glorious natural grass fields, most are cricket grounds
which means that they all have all the width you could want (sorry Portland & Seattle).

    b) Unlike MLS, all teams have 8-9 Australian players starting with 2-3 foreign players max.

2:30am – Western Sydney Wanderers vs. Adelaide United – Fox Sports 2
4:45am – Central Coast Mariners vs. Newcastle Jets – Fox Soccer Plus

Hey Ztom, I am a MLS fanboy, if I can still be a boy over 50. I won’t be allowed to watch, so can you keep me posted. I guess i forget how to use a DVR in your scenerio too ?

I actually sat next to a guy from Melbourne at the last Sounders game…here on biz. Glad the league is doing so well.

    • Freddy Adu

Ohhh Ztom totally burned us “fanbois”!

Thank goodness the A-league is available to give us all a wonderful example of what a true homogenous league can produce in terms of quality. I mean, sheesh, all those teams starting so many domestic players must be breeding a phenomenal national team….I imagine the people of Australia are psyched about being ranked 63 in the world!

Go troll somewhere else you hack

      • Gary Page

Australia is hardly a shining example of a world power in soccer and the best leagues in the world take good players from all over. ZTom must be a native Aussie as his comments are nonsense. You hit the nail on the head.

  • Nic D "the TX 2 Stepper"

No, Z Tom just hasn’t had his meds in quite some time. His many diseases including Trollitis and Macro IgNoRayMoose Have been plaguing him since the day he was born. But you can help!

For only the price of a cup of coffee Z Tom can receive the help that he needs. Ignorant trolls need all the help that can get. Will you lend a hand?

  • Terrence Osbourne

What is the deal with ESPN? Where I live, Dish and Direct are notoriously unreliable and my cable company wouldn’t give me NBC Sports if I gave them a million dollar bribe. I can watch the ocassional game on UNIMAS but that’s it. I wonder why the ratings are so low.
