Bayern Munich have locked down one of their core players for the next three years.

The German club announced on Wednesday that Arjen Robben has signed a new contract through June 2017, which will keep him at Bayern until he’s 33-years old. Though contract details weren’t disclosed, SportBild reported last February that Robben’s salary would be around €8 million per season.

“I’m delighted we’ve now signed the new contract and I’ll continue pursuing trophies with FC Bayern,” Robben said in a statement. “I’m now in my fifth season in Munich and there will be three more after this. There can be no better indication of how happy my family and I feel to be here and how much I enjoy playing for this club and with this team. I’m looking forward to the years ahead – and to plenty more trophies with FC Bayern.”

Robben has been a key member of Bayern since joining the club in 2009, winning nine titles in that span. This season, the Netherlands international has scored 18 goals in 31 games in all competitions.

REAL MADRID LOSE JESE TO SEASON-ENDING INJURY

Real Madrid advanced in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night but they also received some tough news following the game.

Real Madrid announced following the game that star youngster Jese Rodriguez had suffered a complete tear of his anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, ruling Jese out for the rest of the season. Jese suffered the injury only two minutes into Real Madrid’s match against Schalke 04, and was eventually substituted off for Gareth Bale in the eighth minute.

Jese has been a bright surprise in his first year with the Real Madrid first team, scoring eight goals in all competitions, playing mostly off the bench.

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has backed Jese to come back from the injury even stronger. “He was unlucky,” Ancelotti told Real Madrid’s website. “We are going to lose a very important player, a young man who has done very well this season and surprised everyone. That is football. Injuries come in a player’s career and we will be close to him and support him and we’ll be waiting for him next season.”

  1. Raise the salary cap!!! There are still bunches of burned out European stars willing to come to the US and make six times their worth.

  2. Surprised Bayern extended Robben. They already have Julian Green who, according to the posters on here, is the most accomplished footballer on the face of the Earth. Why do they need Robben?

    • I know. I’m happy to have him but he really really needs to get game time before we get too excited.
Btw Slow, Jurgen specifically mentioned in a short interview about it that he is not planning to take him to the WC and that he hopes him to be part of the Olympic and Gold Cup teams. Which is nice to know that on the surface at least isn’t not a crazed attempt to force a unknown into the squad.

      • If he’s not going to the WC then why did he switch to the US? He could’ve waited a couple of years to see what his chances were with Germany.
        It doesn’t make any sense.

      • i know, it’s almost like he wanted to play for us, regardless of what germany might do. the hell is wrong with him?

      • Yeah. Because winning world cups withe country where you’ve always played is way overrated.
        Just attending is good enough.

      • again: maybe some people care more about what country they represent than the trophies another country will (or may) win. crazy.

      • Increase0, do you know where I can find that short interview where Klinsi made that specific comment?

    • Heheheh. Aw, is somebody a little upset?

I believe our German friends have a word that describes the reaction of most commentors to your sour grapes. I can’t think of it right now, but I’m sure it’ll come to me as soon as I’m done laughing.
