Coy Craft continues to make a name for himself with the U.S. Under-18 Men’s National Team.

The 16-year-old FC Dallas product scored one goal and assisted on another as the U-18s beat Canada, 2-1, in a friendly match at the U.S. National Training Center on Tuesday night in Carson, Calif.

Fresh off becoming the latest Real Salt Lake homegrown signing, U.S. U-18 defender Justen Glad put the U.S. on the board in the 23rd minute. A corner kick from David Chavez was flicked on by Craft to the back post, where Glad headed home.

In the 58th minute, the U.S. added their second when midfielder Jorge Ruiz slid a through ball to Craft that he calmly slotted past Canada goalkeeper Marvis Kreitling. Canada cut the deficit in half in the 80th minute through Emmanuel Zambazis but the U.S. held on for the victory.

The U.S. next face Mexico on Saturday before preparing for the Lisbon International Tournament at the end of May.

Here are the game highlights:

What do you think of this result? Glad to see Craft get on the scoresheet? Impressed with anyone’s performance?

That’s awesome!! I remember in high school after our soccer practices we would watch random pirated Man U highlight videos on VHS that someone had gotten from a cousin or uncle or whatever. That was our dose of professional soccer.

It’s awesome that we can tune in every week and see tons of games on TV in the US now. Well, my wife might not agree with that last part!!

About twenty years ago the only soccer on tv was an hour of EPL highlights on Thursday from the previous weekend and, at least in the NYC, a tape delayed Serie A game on sundays. Plus whatever the local spanish language networks showed.

Now, there’s soccer available from all over the world 24/7, not to mention a thriving and and growing league right here at home. Kids these days have it so good!

Hah, go back to the late 70s and early 80s. Soccer Made in Germany with Toby Charles…on PBS!! The game broadcast was probably 3 weeks old.

I think its worth noting that as the us youth teams have gotten way better over the years, scores against Canada are staying the same. It’s nice to see Canada improving alongside us. Maybe in the next cycle or two they will actually make the world cup

I really hope so. We have no one to blame but ourselves for not making it to the Hex this cycle. At least we qualified for the U17 Mens and Womens.

After watching the highlights, it seems like the US could have won 5 or 6 to 1. They need some better finishing but the passing and movement is great from them. How many of these guys are even of the same U18 team that played Argentina?
