Plenty of coaches talk about their desire to play attractive, possession-based soccer, but few can back up their words. So far, Columbus Crew head coach Gregg Berhalter is one of them.
In the first month of the season, the Crew put together a 3-0 record including a dominant win at D.C. United, a gritty win at home against the Philadelphia Union, and a last-gasp finish at the Seattle Sounders. While Federico Higuain might take the national attention, the additions of Michael Parkhurst and Giancarlo Gonzalez in central defense in front of goalkeeper Steve Clark have turned the Crew into one of MLS’ top sides.
The Crew beat out FC Dallas and Real Salt Lake for the March honors.
What do you think of the Crew’s performances in the opening month of the season? Which team impressed you the most in March?
