When Toronto FC drafted Nick Hagglund as one of the first centerbacks taken in the 2014 MLS Draft, the rookie didn’t figure to see much playing time with the likes of Stephen Caldwell, Doneil Henry and Bradley Orr on the squad.

It didn’t take long for Hagglund to get his chance though, with Caldwell and Henry suspended for Saturday’s match against the Columbus Crew. Hagglund made the most of the opportunity, playing a solid match in TFC’s 2-0 victory against the Crew. His steady play in central defense helped him earn SBI MLS Rookie of the Week honors.

Hagglund beat Montreal’s Eric Miller for this week’s honors.

What did you think of Hagglund’s showing for TFC against Columbus? What rookie impressed you the most in MLS Week Five?

  1. I guess that makes Agbossoumonde the 5th choice center back on that squad? Or is he playing an outside back position? Either way, that National Team appearance seems long ago.

    • He played outside back in preseason but I think that was just due to a lack of RBs. It will definitely be difficult for Boss to get playing time this season which is unfortunate as he has potential.
