It’s unlikely that even J.J. Koval expected to be starting this early into the season for the San Jose Earthquakes.
The 21-year-old Stanford product started his second straight match in central midfield for the Earthquakes and played all 90 minutes in the ‘Quakes 1-0 victory against Chivas USA. Koval’s strong performance earned him SBI MLS Rookie of the Week honors, breaking Harrison Shipp’s four-week winning streak.
Honorable mention for this week’s honor goes to the Colorado Rapids’ Jared Watts and Marlon Hairston, and the Houston Dynamo’s A.J. Cochran.
What did you think of Koval’s performance? Which rookie stood out to you in MLS week eight?
