Tab Ramos opened his inaugural pre-Olympic U.S. Under-21 Men’s National Team training camp in Carson, Calif. without two of his key players.

Real Salt Lake midfielder Luis Gil and Columbus Crew midfielder Wil Trapp both accepted call-ups but then pulled out of the camp on Monday due to injuries. Gil is dealing with a sore hamstring while Trapp picked up a knock during his 90-minute performance on Saturday against D.C. United.

Ramos has decided not to call in any other players, leaving the U.S. U-21 roster at 19 for this week’s camp. The camp includes a friendly against Club Tijuana on Wednesday. Even without Trapp and Gil in the roster, the roster includes 12 Major League Soccer players and 11 players who were part of last summer’s U.S. Under-20 MNT at the Under-20 World Cup.

What do you think of this news? Disappointed to see Trapp and Gil not be fit to take part in the camp? Who do you see taking up their roles in the friendly against Xolos?

  1. What’s disturbing is that Tab Ramos has this much power. A guy who couldn’t even compete in Jersey club soccer, has never shown a soccer acumen anywhere, has politically BSed his way up the ladder. Sigh. Brought in some of the same useless players with no future or upside anywhere.
Said, we only needed a few breaks in the U20 WC. Insane, ridiculous, scary and sad.

      • Tab just said it in a recent interview when asked about the u21 team.
Pathetic. If we only got a couple of breaks is what the unqualified clown said.

Delusional, or he thinks we are morons. He sounds just like JK did when he was peddling for the US job and during the first several months of his reign….pathetic.

  2. Trapp picked up a knock? Was that before or after his inch-perfect 40 yd. ball to set up Jimenez’s tying goal in hte 90th minute?

  3. Marlon Hairston. I gotta funny feeling he could be a superstar. Plus his background and his stroy as to how he got into soccer is mad inspiring

  4. I was going to say is it intra squad under 21 match for USMNT. This was a great idea as Ramos will get to see up front several u21 guys. Also explains why no Ariolla or Guido.
