  1. I’ve just been reading about the Qatar infrastructure projects and the increasing world wide opposition to FIFA having awarded the tournament to Qatar. The admission of Sepp that the awarding was a mistake is also everywhere now. It seems common knowledge that one worker dies per day and worker’s pay packs are being held so they won’t run. I was curious about support for FIFA reassigning the 2022 WC to the USA. I don’t think football supporters anywhere wants the tournament to be there except the ones that voted and got paid.

  2. what about the protests?

have a friend in Rio who is more concern about the debt that the country will have for years trying to pay off for the tournament. and how there are no jobs n security.

oh wait, shouldn’t get politics involved in sport

No world cup in russia or QATAR. I will boycott it.

    • I feel you, and know a lot of others do as well. I wish this great event wouldn’t allow/cause so many other horrible events in it’s wake. I think the current system is proving itself flawed to more and more people, and that it’s only a matter of time until a reformist is voted in as FIFA president. If Sepp wins in 2015, without yet moving the 2022 WC, I think the proverbial poop hits the fan, and the semi-proverbial road hits the fork.

My good friend Sam Cooke promised all of this to me, in his 1963 smash hit, “A Change Is Gonna Come.”

    • Mixed feeling about the Brazilian protests. They wanted the games… and the people they elected boned them. I mean its bad but hey in Brazil you can just vote them out of office. No great injustice. Just great incompetence.

  3. I enjoy excessive sarcasm. If I would not have seen this video I’m confident my life would have continued.

    • +1 made me smile! I could use a little more of the youthful Duece. His current persona is a little more of a drag.

  4. I’ve been in advertising for 20 years. My stories have touch over 1 million people on YouTube for Heineken, over 23 million for Cingular, over 20 million for HSBC Direct and engaged GE customers for over 700 minutes. I’d give it all up to have this spot on my reel. LOVED IT. I didn’t think I could get more excited for 6/12 but I just did. C’mon USA. C’mon Brazil (my wife’s country). No that would be a final!

    • Well if you did that Heineken commercial with the girls shoe closet/ guy beer closet, that was genius! (i think it was originally in German for the CL, and dubbed English for our SB a couple years ago)

  5. They neglected to show any of the massive protests and riots that have been ongoing in Brasil. Indeed, this World Cup could prove to be more interesting off the field. Even futbol mad Brazilians are realizing that the World Cup is just another party for the Elite while the people pay the bill. Seems like the “bread and circus” routine is getting less and less effective. Maybe the global plebs are awakening from their fast food and “smart” phone induced coma. Go USA!

  6. Love the use of Dempsey’s goal celebration in the Italy game in 2006. Too bad that was one of few highlights from 2006.

    • That was the Ghana game. That was a great ball from Beasley to Dempsey, I believe. Unfortunately, it was under the circumstances of a lost cause as we were trying to come back in that game. I remember being excited Dempsey scored but overall, sucked because we were on the verge of bowing out. Really was his coming out party, I think.
      Fulham that fall?

    • +1 Also couldve used the Algeria golden goal magic moment from SA10 that even non-soccer folks remember. Thats one highlight all Americans feel good about.

      • We could use it, but it wasn’t the theme of that promo. The promo was about brazilian flair.

      • They should’ve showed the real brazilian girls who work at Amicis pizza restaurant or being a nanny, all doing coke and smoking pot til 4am AND never wanting the d**K !

  7. I always told myself I’d marry a woman who made me feel like how I feel during a World Cup Summer. I’ve realized this is impossible. I’ve realized this feeling that I get every 4 years is unlike any other feeling I’ve ever had.

Wow guys… the World Cup is back!

  9. now THIS is how you do a world cup commercial. take note Samsung; no robots (yes, i know it was a galaxy phone commercial, but the whole concept was so ridiculous and the connection to soccer was tenuous at best…)

    • Also took note they called it football and not “soccer”. Wonder if they’ll show this version here in the states or if they will change it to read soccer. Wouldn’t want to upset the pointy ball crowd…
