A quartet of Mother’s Day offerings in Major League Soccer help round out what has already been an exciting day in the world of soccer.

The Portland Timbers and LA Galaxy renew acquaintances in the day’s first match, as Caleb Porter and Bruce Arena match wits at Providence Park (2:30pm, NBC Sports). The Timbers posted their first win of 2014 last weekend and will look to build on that by beating a Galaxy team they had the better of in 2013.

The Colorado Rapids take on struggling Chivas USA in the day’s next MLS match (3pm, MLS Direct Kick) as Pablo Mastroeni’s side try to pitch a third straight shutout by knocking off a Chivas USA side winless in eight.

The New England Revolution play host to the Seattle Sounders in the day’s best match-up (6pm, MLS Direct Kick) as Clint Dempsey faces the Revs for the first time. New England is unbeaten in four (3-0-1) and will look to halt Seattle’s torrid streak of five straight wins.

The day’s final offering features the Houston Dynamo playing host to unbeaten Real Salt Lake (7pm, MLS Direct Kick). The Dynamo have won two straight and will try to use their home-field advantage against an RSL side that has been playing some of the best soccer in the league.

  1. Seattle just can’t defend the counter attack how do you leave your defenders exposed like that time after time.

      • And again Seattle has been wasteful and conceded again. Looks like they are finally going to be punished for their questionable defending that they’ve been getting away with.

  2. How could he admit that the offensive player touched it last without giving a penalty? What else could it possible be when the offensive player has his legs taken out from behind and still gets the last touch?

  3. MLS refereeing just decided another game.

Junihno is in on goal on the fast break, Kah chases him down from behind and shoves him over. No foul. No red. Nothing. That was really bad officiating.

Robbie Keane and Arenas at midfield screaming at official after the game.

    • Confounding. Besides the shove being clear as day, the ref must have assumed that Juninho dove, on a breakaway, outside the box, with Lando coming up on his right. Made no sense, really bad.
