SBI MLS Team of the Week: New England Revolution

MLS: New England Revolution at Toronto FC

By IVES GALARCEP

The New England Revolution traveled to Canada to take on Toronto FC this past weekend and set about trying to post their first win in Toronto in team history without the services of reigning MLS Defender of the Year Jose Goncalves and star playmaker Kelyn Rowe.

That couldn’t stop the Revs from pulling off the victory though, and neither could the presence of Toronto FC’s high-priced stars, as Patrick Mullins and Lee Nguyen led the charge in a 2-1 Revs victory at BMO Field that earned New England SBI MLS Team of the Week honors.

The Revs beat out Sporting Kansas City, Real Salt Lake and the Seattle Sounders for this week’s honors.

What did you think of the Revs’ performance this week? What MLS team impressed you the most in week nine?

  1. I just don’t see them as team of the week, what am I missing? Look at the stats on the MLS site and Toronto dominated most of the game. New England got kind of lucky in this game that there was a penalty awarded or it would have been a tie. RSL should have had this weeks team of the week. They were down two goals and came back to win the game, they dominated most ever stat that MLS covered. I guess your argument for New England is that Toronto is a better team than Chicago?

    • Penalty was awarded because NE was putting pressure on goal and someone used a volleyball block to try and stop them from scoring. Wasn’t a controversial nor unearned PK.

  2. Lee Nguyen is a beast. My feeling is he is best MLS midfielder and perhaps even amongst all Americans. He can do it all, pass, create chances, dribble and score. Opens up the defense like the parting of the red sea. If he’s not in the 30 man USMNT camp I will boycott JK and USMNT this summer. He has got GAME

      • Unfortunately I think you are correct. What needs to happen is the 30 most in-form americans should be called up. We’re at an enormous disadvantage given the group we are in, the best thing we can do is bring talent and see how it goes.

        He deserves it. Let’s see..
