World Cup warm-ups and Major League Soccer highlight the action on television this weekend.

The U.S. Men’s National Team continues their send-off series at Red Bull Arena on Sunday with a friendly match against Turkey. Clint Dempsey has been given the all clear to play, according to USMNT manager Jurgen Klinsmann, and the American captain is expected to be in the starting lineup for the Yanks.

Most World Cup teams will be in action this weekend. Many sides are making their final preparations for Brazil in the United States, including Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Ivory Coast, which will play each other in St. Louis on Saturday.

In MLS, the New England Revolution look to extend their unbeaten run to eight matches against the lowly Montreal Impact. The Impact have seven points all season while New England has taken 19 out of 21 possible points during this seven-match run.

  1. man, Netherlands should be up 3-0 on Ghana. Ghana not playing terrible but their backline doesn’t look great. Portugal can’t seem to break down Greece.

    • Ghana’s back line is bad, as expected. What surprises me is how bad their midfield has been. That was supposed to be their strength.

Also, I have yet to see the blazing speed they’re famed for.

  2. I just watched the last ten minutes of USA v Algeria 2010 for about the third time in the last couple weeks. Very nice!!!

  3. All I want in this world is to be able to watch our domestic league on basic cable without having to pay for an extra package the same way I can with NFL, NBA, NHL, or MLB. I guess one can dream. Thank you NBC for getting my hopes up when you bought the rights to MLS and then just dumping the league off like an empty beer bottle.

    • Just to point out — Ghana is playing the Netherlands. Germany is playing Cameroon, Portugal is playing Greece.

The USA gets Azerbaijan and Turkey (the latter playing on less than 3 days rest). Strong prep.

  4. Does anyone know which kit the US will be wearing on Sunday? I want to make sure I’m wearing the right colors.

    • You can never go wrong with red, white and blue… oh wait, Nike did with their new jersey. Bring back the denim!

      • Oh you’re preaching to the choir Ian, that’s the Jersey I’ve purchased for the World Cup with Mr. Michael Bradley’s name and number on the back. I may have to shave my head too!

  5. I saw the first half of the Honduras and Turkey game last night and Honduras looked good. I have no idea whether they subbed a lot in the second half, but Turkey won 2-0. In the first half, Honduras really took the game to them and attacked well. Turkey will be a tough test, and I think we will learn a lot from this game. If we do not look at least as strong as Honduras did in the first half last night, there will be a lot to worry about.

    • If we do not look at least as strong as Honduras did in the first half last night, there will be a lot to worry about? You do not know anything about this game with a moronic statement like this.

      Reply
      • Well, I certainly know more about the game than you do about manners. In the end, that’s all that really matters.

      • Who is Lala?

Also, what does “Lala’s but hair shaver” mean? There’s a conjunction — “but” — but, “but” isn’t connecting two disparate clauses. So, I’m confused.

      • Well, I certainly know more about the game than you do about manners? Good for you!!!!!! You are still a moron with a comment like that and is all that matters to me, MORON!!!!!!!!!!!! Go eat my red butt hair!!!!!!

      • Hmmm. I’m not a licensed psychiatrist, nor do I have a copy of the latest edition of the DSM available at home. But, I’m going to go out on a limb here and guess that, diagnostically speaking, your aggression and limited vocabulary suggest that you were shortchanged at birth in the weenie department. Sorry for your shortcomings.

      • Yes William… but u gotta give it up for his SBI nickname…
Although I’m not sure which is more likely to send someone to a psychiatrist, Alexi’s butt hair, or his butt hair’s shaver….

      • Yeah. I have never seen that SBI name before today. There are a few trolls on this site with multiple names, and I’m guessing this is one of them.

      • True Fischy….I stand corrected..
My apologies William, an elementary teacher as opposed to a mental health profesional?

      • Terry Pratchett said, “Multiple exclamation marks are a sure sign of a diseased mind.” Case in point right here.

    • Ya, I watched it as well. and 2nd half subs ruined Honduras. They just have no defensive depth and when guys like Roger Espinoza come off at halftime it was always gunna be hard for them.

Turkey didn’t have Nuri Sahin playing either so I feel it was a fairly experimental game for both teams. We need to win that first half depending on how we line up. We do something weird like start Yedlin then… whatever. I really wanna see the starting 11.

      • Agree. It’s all about the first half because in the second half we will see lots of subs. Since we are playing the same team Honduras played, that first half might … might .. serve as something as a rough measuring stick of where we are relative to one of our CONCACAF rivals that split with us in the hex.

      • I been told Turkey started out with 2nd stringers in the midfield and in the second half they started to sub in their first stringers although they are saving Turan for our game 🙁
