We’ve got our first draw of the 2014 World Cup and it’s largely thanks Iran’s defender, Mehrdad Pooladi.
There wasn’t much to write home about when Iran faced off against Nigeria, playing to a 0-0 draw in Curitiba, Brazil. The biggest chance of the match came in the dying moments when Nigeria crossed a dangerous ball into the box, but Mehrdad was waiting at the back post and cleared the ball away just in time.
The very next play Nigeria played a corner into the box and Shola Ameobi was there to head a screaming ball that was destined for the back of the net before Mehrdad’s head made another appearance, blocking the chance and preserving the point for Iran.
What did you think of Mehrdad’s performance? Did any other players stand out to you?

Mehrdad Pooladi played well ! Iran will qualify …
Iran is the best ever ….
Amazing how this team are the champions of Africa.
Anyone who sat through the entire 90 minutes gets MOTM as far as I’m concerned.
I say Steve Beitashour was the man of the match!
