It was only a matter of time before the Philadelphia Union began to remove the remaining coaching staff connected to former head coach John Hackworth.

On Wednesday, the Union announced that they had parted ways with assistant coach and technical director Rob Vartughian after four years with the club, joining the team during their inaugural season.

“We thank Rob for all of his contributions over the past five years with this club and wish him nothing but the best,” CEO Nick Sakiewicz said in a statement.

Vartughian’s first role with the Union was as goalkeeper coach and eventually earned the title of technical director to go along with assistant coach in 2012.

Here are some more stories from around MLS:

FEILHABER DIAGNOSED WITH SEPARATED SHOULDER

Sporting Kansas City learned the diagnosis of midfielder Benny Feilhaber’s injured shoulder, and it wasn’t the positive news they were hoping for.

After undergoing a series of x-rays, Feilhaber was diagnosed with a sprained AC joint in his left shoulder, otherwise known as a separated shoulder. Sporting KC have no timetable for Feilhaber to return to the lineup but it’s estimated that it could be a minimum of two weeks to a few months before the injury is fully healed.

The Sporting KC staff will wait a few more days before creating a timetable for Feilhaber’s return, but it’s safe to say that he might not be back in action until mid-July or August.

IMPACT SIGN SPANISH MIDFIELDER LARREA

The Montreal Impact made a mid-season acquisition on Wednesday when they finally completed the signing of Gorka Larrea.

The Spanish midfielder had been on trail with the Impact last May after a failed trial with the New England Revolution. He was last with Numancia but had been without a club since summer 2013.

Larrea previously played with Levante and Real Sociedad in his native Spain.

  1. That Brunner tackle that caused Feilhaber’s injury was brutal. I know Brunner had to come off the bench early on and that these were his first minutes of the year, but still, I’m amazed that he wasn’t sent off for that tackle. Wondering if the DisCo will take a look at it.
