World Cup Day 8: Your Running Commentary

Several teams could be putting their World Cup fates in serious jeopardy without positive results on Thursday.

Before that, however, two sides in Group C will play for the chance to clinch a spot in the knockout stage. Colombia and the Ivory Coast both claimed victory in their opening match, so a win for either side will put that team into the Round of 16. For the Ivory Coast, it would be the first time, while Colombia has not been since 1990.

After disappointing losses in their first matches, England and Uruguay find themselves in a difficult position, with both likely needing to win to stay alive. Uruguay should get a boost if Luis Suarez is back in the starting lineup. The Premier League’s leading scorer was still not fully fit for the loss to Costa Rica, as he was still recovering from knee surgery.

Japan and Greece also lost their openers, so both will be gunning for victory in Thursday’s final match. Lead by Keisuke Honda, Japan nearly held off the Ivory Coast for the three points in their first match, but the inclusion of Didier Drogba inspired the African side to victory. Meanwhile, Greece got ripped apart by Colombia, never looking like they had a chance of claiming victory.

  2. OK, this is going to be a snooze bar special.
The Greeks already packed it in, asleep back by the bus
and the Japanese work best by putting their opponents to sleep.
