Costa Rica has enjoyed a great deal of success so far at the World Cup, and its stingy defense has been one of the reasons why.
That trend continued Tuesday as Costa Rica earned a point against England in a 0-0 draw — the Ticos’ second shutout in as many games. In three matches at the World Cup, Costa Rica has given up just a single goal. One.
A big factor in Tuesday’s draw was the play of defender Giancarlo Gonzalez. The 26-year-old forced three interceptions and added eight clearances in 90 minutes of work. Gonzalez also recovered four times in the match, which doesn’t even include a crucial tackle inside the Costa Rican penalty area to keep England off the scoreboard.
Gonzalez beat out teammate Roy Miller and England’s Daniel Sturridge for the honors.

As a crew fan, I love the guy, but I’m hoping some English team took notice and makes an offer we can’t refuse. We need the cash unfortunately.
