With the score tied 1-1 at the half in their matchup with Japan, Colombia manager José Pékerman knew exactly where to turn.
As he has done throughout the group stages, Colombia playmaking midfielder James Rodriguez pulled the strings once again, leading his side to a 4-1 victory with a goal and two assists.
Colombia looked to be different players with Rodriguez on the field, as the Group C winners took it to Japan after Rodriguez’s halftime introduction. Frustrated striker Jackson Martinez scored twice via the service of Rodriguez in the 55th and 82nd minutes before Rodriguez got a spectacular one of his own in extra time.
Rodriguez was once again the key figure in Colombia’s attack, earning him SBI World Cup Man of the Match honors. The 22-year-old beat out teammates Martinez and Juan Cuadrado for today’s honors.

He’s a monster. Junior Flores will break out in 2018 the way James has! Maybe. Hopefully.
