Colombia’s most productive talisman of the 2014 World Cup, James Rodríguez, was out to impress once again in his side’s 2-0 victory over Uruguay. With his heroic goal-scoring prowess and one of the finest goals of the tournament thus far, Rodríguez pushed Colombia to advance past the Round of 16 for the first time in World Cup history.

The AS Monaco midfielder hit a left-footed volley off the underside of the crossbar and past Uruguay goalkeeper Fernando Muslera in the 28th minute. Shortly after halftime, he slotted home a headed layoff from teammate Juan Cuadrado to secure Colombia’s lead.

With today’s result, the 22-year-old playmaker is now the leading contender for the tournament’s Golden Boot award. He is also the only player to have scored at least one goal in each of his first four matches of this World Cup.

Rodríguez’s game-changing, two-goal performance earned him SBI Man of the Match honors. He narrowly beat out teammate and goal architect Juan Cuadrado, and Uruguay’s Cristian Rodríguez in the process.

    • why?….monaco just bought him, they have deep pockets to keep buying talent and they’re in the champions league……plus he’s a sure starter there, as oppose to having to re-establish himself in a new club.
