Erick Torres keeps on scoring and now has Chivas USA out of last place in the Western Conference.

Torres scored his 11th goal of the year on Wednesday night to lead Chivas to a 1-0 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes. It is the first time Chivas has won back-to-back games this season and the loss drops the Earthquakes into the basement in the Western Conference.

The 21-year-old Mexican forward was left open in the penalty area as the Earthquakes tried to repel the ball away from their goal. Mauro Rosales crossed the ball into the box, where it deflected off the heads of two San Jose defenders. The ball settled at Torres’ feet, and he was able to easily place it past Jon Busch for the goal in the 53rd minute.

San Jose controlled the possession and had more scoring opportunities, but they were unable to capitalize. Chivas USA’s defense held strong throughout the match, preventing the Earthquakes from getting a better chance than a free kick that forced Dan Kennedy into a diving save.

Chives nearly doubled its lead with less than 10 minutes left. Leandro Barrera set up Marco Delgado for a shot at an open net, but Delgado was unable to take advantage.

    • That is unfair to pub teams. They are a crappy intramural squad. So much is wrong with this organization.
