After a slow start to his Major League Soccer career, Bradley Wright-Phillips has proven to be one of the league’s most lethal finishers.

The New York Red Bulls forward scored two goals in his side’s 2-2 draw against the Houston Dynamo last Friday at BBVA Compass Stadium, taking his goal-scoring tally this season to 14 goals. Wright-Phillips’ performance earned him SBI MLS Player of the Week honors for the second time this season.

Wright-Phillips scored his first in the 13th minute as he perfectly timed a run past the Dynamo back line on to a long ball from Eric Alexander, and finished past Tally Hall with a left-footed shot. The Englishman scored his second in the 72nd minute when Ambroise Oyongo lofted in a cross from the left and Wright-Phillips looped in a header over the out-stretched arms of Hall.

Wright-Phillips beat out Erick Torres, Diego Valeri, and Sebastian Fernandez for this week’s honors.

  1. He has a brother who plays for England named Francis Wright-Jeffers. They are the sons or janitors of former Arsenal striker Monty Python-Wright. I once saw them both go for centuries at Wimbledon. I own a victrola. Good day.
