Soccer Wednesday: Your Running Commentary

Major League Soccer is in full swing again following the World Cup and will take center stage Wednesday with four matches involving teams needing results.

The action kicks off with the New York Red Bulls and Philadelphia Union at PPL Park. The Red Bulls haven’t lost a league fixture in five matches and will be looking to extend that statistic to six against a laboring Union squad led by interim head manager Jim Curtin.

Almost five-hundred miles away, the Columbus Crew will look to exact revenge on Sporting Kansas City for a May meeting which saw the reigning MLS Cup champions cruise to a 2-0 victory at Sporting Park. The Crew haven’t won a league match dating back to May 24th, falling to sixth in the Eastern Conference race during that time after jumping into first place early in the season.

Up north, Toronto FC and the Vancouver Whitecaps will renew their Canadian rivalry at BMO field. The two teams enter Wednesday’s matchup on the heels of two crazy finishes during the weekend. Toronto FC eliminated a 2-0 deficit against the Houston Dynamo Saturday to win in easy fashion 4-2, while the Whitecaps saw a 1-0 lead against Chivas USA vanish in a disappointing 3-1 loss.

The night will end in Carson, Calif. with two teams heading in opposite directions as the LA Galaxy take on the New England Revolution. The Galaxy haven’t dropped a league match in two months after struggling out the gate, while the Revolution haven’t secured three points in an MLS match since May 24th.

If you will be watching today’s matches, please feel free to share your thoughts, opinions, and some play-by-play in the comments section below.

Well Conor Casey just did our young CB prospect dirty with a nice cut then finish. Miazga did not look good there.

Does anyone subscribe to mls live? I am thinking about trying it with my Chromecast but worry about video quality.

It’s great. No worries about quality on my end, but I’m not a videophile or anything. It’s better than Fox Soccer Channel was.

Dax is not Dax right now, nor has he been all season, really. If he doesn’t return to form quickly, with their schedule this team is out of the playoffs. You can’t have a crappy d-mid paired with an inexperienced back line. You can’t win 4-3/3-2 every time out.

No Donovan in the LAG lineup? Resting him because of the weekend game or????

    • Ian

Must be. NE came into this game 0-5 in their last five, so I guess it made sense to save LD for the weekend.
