Odense BK terminate O’Brien’s contract

Conor O'Brien (Odense BK)

A year-and-a-half after signing with Odense BK, Conor O’Brien is on the move again.

Odense and O’Brien agreed to terminate the midfielder’s contract on Thursday morning, making him a free agent. The decision comes after O’Brien struggled to break into the Danish club’s lineup on a consistent basis, and there are rumors of him heading to an Austrian side.

The 25-year-old O’Brien signed with Odense back in January 2013, but made just 10 starts in 15 appearances during the 2013-14 Superliga campaign. He did not play in the club’s season opener two weeks ago, but did start and go the distance in this past weekend’s 3-1 road loss to FC Vestsjaelland.

What do you think of O’Brien leaving Odense? Should MLS try and sign him? Where do you see him winding up next?

  1. Never seen him play but there was that Ryan Miller fella who played left back for the Timbers a while back who had a similar playing resume in Scandinavia. Don’t think he lasted a full season though before he got sliced.

  2. I wouldn’t be so quick to say it’s a move down. The Austrian bundesliga has a higher coefficient. At the very least he’ll be playing against better competition.

  3. didn’t he sign for a club in Austria? A move down. 2 years ago there were people clammering for him to get a T call-up. Let’s be honest he’s MLS quality but probably makes like 200-250 K in Europe whereas in MLS he’d make no more than 150 K.
