SBI Wednesday Rewind: Xavi linked to MLS again; Besler gets overseas offers; and more

Xavi reaching out for a new club

By CAITLIN MURRAY

The rumors and speculation that Xavi Hernandez will head to New York City FC got a bit louder Wednesday with new reports out of Spain linking Xavi to the Major League Soccer expansion club. One unconfirmed report claimed that Xavi is days away from finalizing his move to NYC FC. It remains to be seen where he ends up, but with the signing of fellow Spaniard David Villa, it’s not a stretch to see NYC FC as being in play, even as the New York Red Bulls and Seattle Sounders are rumored to be in the mix.

Sporting Kansas City’s Matt Besler could potentially be on his way out of MLS. After his sparkling performance at the World Cup, it seemed sure other clubs would come knocking. Besler confirmed on Wednesday that several overseas clubs have expressed interest in his services, including Fulham and Jozy Altidore’s Sunderland.

And Kick TV debuted an all-soccer parody of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off starring Mike Magee, Omar Gonzalez and Sydney Leroux that is probably worth a watch for American soccer fans.

  1. besler should leave now, why would he pick mls over europe?
hes not lampard or thiago silva to say, I want a better team if not im good here or even say, I dont need europe.
besler will get a better paycheck and a lot experience.
as for xavi, why not LA2 or even cosmos. im tired of mls and garber not helping dallas, houston, denver, philly and even columbus when recruiting top dps. of course messi won’t go to dallas but xavi might if you give him dallas cowboys tickets with a suite, maverick tickets, a nice ranch mansion, private school for the kids, a lake house, teach him about texas life and on.
by the way, is xavi better than ronaldinho for mls.

    • Because everyone else is saying get Jozy out?

Maybe it was a rhetorical question or did you feel like you needed to get your soccer in the US whines in…just to stay sharp ?

      • I did not notice any whining in Byob El Paso’s post. There is no need to be so insecure – take it easy, man.

    • MLS has only helped with the transfer fee, not the actual salary for Dempsey or Bradley. When these other teams are willing to pay 7 million dollar salaries they can request help from MLS with transfer fees.
