  1. And almost every single person on this website has either said lewandoski is better than IBRA (facepalm) or that pep is wrong for being mad at the mls players for taking the match way to seriously, and that mls has proved that it is are a “big league” after beating bayern. By the way it seems like the only team that puts more that 5% in the friendlies, (maybe 7) beat la galaxy 7-0. This is a utd team that finished 7th in the league by the way.

  2. This is pathetic, people are bashing pep when they don’t understand the slightest thing about the purpose of this match. It was to gain match fitness, if a player gets injured long term during a friendly ( possible due to mls players taking this too seriously) it could ruin the whole season. And by the way, the champions league (the big “soccer” competition) is ALOT bigger than the Super Bowl, and the overal german season is about the combination of the nba playoffs, mlb World Series, the whole american eggball Super Bowl and season, anything racing related, x 10

    • I think you meant to put “football” in quotes instead of “soccer”. But whatever. This isn’t SI dot com. We are actually hardcore footsoccer fans here. We are all very aware that the Champions League is a big deal and most of us don’t really care at all about anything “racing related” We just don’t like b*tches. And with that, goodbye. B*tch.

  3. Once again MLS embarrasses itself. This is a friendly. The hard tackles are unnecessary and unprofessional. A real footballer could have got hurt. Pep had every right to be angry.

    • I don’t fault Pep for not knowing the score when they came over, since this was their first trip to the states, but a manager of his caliber ought to recognize what is going down, that there are 11 fresh and hungry guys on at half, and make sure his players knew the score. Definitely shouldn’t have had the WC players trot out there playing grab ass like they were.

    • Not having a personal go at you because I don’t know you but this is not an intelligent post at all.

It’s OK to be biased but how tackles is an embarrassment to the league is beyond me.

Your the kind of guy that wants the MLS guys to stand around like cones, get schooled, which will allow you to beat your chest to your “MLS sucks” chant. You play in season guys you get a game.

Real footballer? Better yes, but our guys are real too.

Pep may have had some right to be angry (i don’t see why) but did he have the right to display poor class?

  4. I cant believe what the germann Porkchop did when he was at the receiving end… he can be a rough and at times even a dirty player…

German fans paid to see him, too bad… after the tackle, he left the field and never returned…

  5. Zlatan in his autobiography called Guardiola a spineless coward. Guy yells at Porter all game long from his box, but when the game is over he won’t go near him. @ss.

    Reply
    • hahaha… exactly. Pep wanted to cross into Porters box and assistant ref had to stop him…. then he runs away when Porter is coming over to him.

  6. New preseason rules: no tackles allowed. None. Because that’s what we want to watch as fans: fast paced offense, ole defense, and boring ass matches.

    Pep is classless.

  7. I thought it was standard if a guy is a thug in a friendly and should get a red card. He gets a yellow and his manager takes him out of the game. Maybe they had used the subs.
On a side note does this count as Ridgewell’s 4th MLS game? Little mention how ridiculous he is that he is on the team but then he even plays the entire second half

  8. How bout Ld’s goal, there’s that extra muscle I was always talking about.
just shrugged off the defender and tucked it past the best keeper in the world.
And BW-P with a fantastic strike.
    Way to go MLS.

Bayern and Pepe G. are feeling a little sour, not shaking hands and all.
btw those fouls were not so horrendous and they did get carded for them in any event.
The one on Porkchop, Johnson actually tried to let up, yes the contact was real but also somewhat incidental.

    • 3 awesome goals

Pep went for the intimidation reaction because he was shocked at the resistance, didn’t expect this, imo

      • +1 I don’t think Pep had any idea where he was or what was being celebrated. And I don’t think he’ll be bringing his squads back to Portland anytime soon. Meh.. good riddance… New York City is about as deep as he should wander into MLS territory unless he feels like upgrading his lumberjack outfits.

  9. Tackles were not that bad at all. Pretty weak move by Pep. I’m a big fan of his, but that was weak sauce. Nobody got hurt. Everyone was going for ball. No harm done. Even if he felt some tackles were over the line, it’s not Caleb’s fault. Those aren’t even his players. It’s a freaking all star team. Senseless act by Pep. Maybe he can’t take the pressure of being Bayern manager.

    • Yah, there were no leg breakers. It was rough but not bones were gunna be broken.

Bayern wants a soft game but… if the MLS plays like that Bayern gets an easy game. Meh.

  10. Time for my annual comment on this stupid format for an All-Star game. When will bush league MLS get it? Go back to East vs. West and treat the fans to a bunch of goals. I’d rather watch a fun, no-defense goal-fest than a meaningless friendly with a European team in pre-season who may or may not want to be there. It’s just a lose-lose scenario. Sure, Pep is acting like a b!tch, but put yourself in his shoes — you think he wants to see Schweinsteiger get hurt?

    • -1. This was great. A celebration of MLS. Nobody even noticed Bayern were there until Pep got his chonies knotted… and that was just funny. Winning was great but it would’ve been an enjoyable watch if we hadn’t.

I’m not even sure what “bush league” means when talking about the right format for soccer all-star games. What is the global standard for these things that nobody else does? Maybe Pep knows?

  11. Bayern coaches being giant man babies. How is it Porter’s fault that Alonso decided to slide wrecklessly into that challenge?

    Reply
    • Was even that bad of a challenge? He’s going for the ball just looked like his trailing leg catches, Shaqiri (or who ever it was).

      Reply
      • I though Johnson had a second one about 5 minutes from time. Maybe it wasn’t him.

Someone messed up a 50/50 ball at the top of the box and pulled/tripped the Bayern player.

        Maybe it wasn’t him.

  12. Caleb porter looked like he had his tail in between his legs when he kept apologizing to Pep and after when he kept trying go shake his hand.

    Reply
    • you’re right Porter didn’t stand up and stick his chest out but he did the smart thing…..never burn any bridges… Pep just did

      Reply
    • Not to me…. he looked like a lot more like the cat who ate the canary, and I loved it. Pep is a superb coach but a spectacularly dislikable nerd, and I think Porter had a grand time with it. Watching Pep spaz out in his lame Eddie Bauer duds was a highlight anybody can enjoy… I’ll bet Mourinho was a little bummed he didn’t hop a plane and get in the act with some friendly eye gouging. Glorious.

  13. Ridiculous response from Pep and his staff. I have to feel they don’t complain this much if they’re winning. Which is crazy since this is a meaningless friendly.

    Still, fun game.

    • They were one of the best sides in Europe last year with him coaching. You don’t have the like the guy but he knows what he’s doing.

      Reply
      • Pep is a great coach no doubt but let’s not act like that team didn’t win 6 trophies the year before. I could have probably could have lead them to the league trophy.

      • He made a lot of silly decisions too.

That business with Lahm. And well setting the team upnto fail against Real.

    • He was mad because of a few challenges (tackles) against bayern in a friendly, where Munich players literally are not supposed to take seriously, and btw I hate bayern, but the fact that people think that mls is comparable to the top leagues now is something so stupid I can’t explain it in words.

      Reply
    • I think it was contractual that a few Bayern stars had to make an appearance. Plus Pep has got to realize you can’t control Alonso…he’s just a pitbull out there.

    • You realize this is a friendly right. The main thing teams try to do during friendlies is gain match fitness. Bayern weren’t really trying, and this is not an opinion, it’s a fact. Teams like man city or barcalona lose to olympiakos, and this happens too. To be honest, this mls all star team would get relegated in the premier league. Landon donovon, a legend in mls “soccer” would be dismantled, bruised, torn from limb from limb, and completely killed in the SECONED DIVISION of the europian leagues

  16. This game might be ugly but I’m willing to say I’m entertained by this MLS All Star Game / Julian Green Testimonial. Crowd is loving every half-chance MLS creates. I will learn nothing about the state of MLS in the global context, and that is totally fine.

    • Didn’t take long for the MLS to start getting service… once MB left the pitch.

That guy is going to go stagnant in Toronto… stick a fork in him!

  17. Best striker in the world? Ibrahimovic? Suarez? How about Lewandowski.

MLS needs to get him. He’s only 26. Drop some big money on him when his contract ends at Munich in 4 years. Give him 10 million a year and you have him.

Chicago FIRE could use him greatly

    • Firstly, he will almost surely not go to mls, secondly, HE IS NOT BETTER THAN IBRA AND SUAREZ, WHAT ARE YOU THINKING, THIS IS LEGITIMATELY SAYING THAT LOPEZ IS A BETTER KEEPER THAN NEUER, OR IN BASKETBALL TERMS, JAMES HARDEN IS BETTER THAN A PRIME KOBE BRYANT, WHAT KIND OF RIDICULOUS DRUG ARE YOU TAKING
