Nearly two months to the day after dropping the Canadian Championship to the Montreal Impact, Toronto FC got revenge when the Canadian rivals clashed in MLS play.

Gilberto and Luke Moore scored for TFC, who knocked off the struggling Impact 2-0 at Stade Saputo in the pair’s first league clash of the season.

It took just 11 minutes for the visitors to find the back of the net via Gilberto. After a foul just outside their own box, TFC opted for a quick free kick with hopes of catching the Impact on the counter.

After putting together a string of passes to get upfield, the ball came to TFC midfielder Michael Bradley, who chipped a through ball over the defense and onto the feet Dominic Oduro. Oduro centered the ball with his first touch into the path of Gilberto, who smashed home the bouncing ball for his third goal of the season.

Moore added a second for TFC in the 54th minute as Bradley’s passing was on full display yet again. The American midfielder received the ball in his own end before hitting a through ball into the path of Oduro, who was streaking through the right side of the field.

Oduro took a few touches before pushing the ball into the center of the box, where it deflected off of Krzysztof Krol and into the path of Moore, who finished from close range to double the lead.

With the victory, TFC move up to third in the Eastern Conference while the Impact remain bottom of the league. TFC will be back in action August 9 in Columbus when they take on the Crew. Meanwhile, the Impact, who have now lost six straight, will now turn towards the CONCACAF Champions League with a Tuesday matchup with El Salvador’s FAS.
