Jack McInerney’s return to PP&L Park on Saturday marked his first time back since being traded away by the Philadelphia Union. He wasn’t treated to much of a homecoming, instead he was reminded who had replaced him as the Union’s go-to goal scorer.

Sebastien LeToux scored a pair of goals, one in each half, to help lead the Union to a 2-1 victory against the Montreal Impact on Saturday.

LeToux raced onto a Zac MacMath long ball in the 12th minute, and beat Troy Perkins before slotting him the opening score of the match. The French forward made it 2-0 in the 63rd minute when he collected an Andrew Wenger pass and pulled off a shoulder fake on his defender before slipping a shot past Perkins for his seventh goal in eight matches.

Montreal pulled one back in the 79th minute when rookie defender Maxim Tissot volleyed home a perfect long pass from Andres Romero, but the Impact couldn’t find an equalizer.

The Union improved to 4-1-4 in their past nine matches, and 3-1-3 under interim head coach Jim Curtin. The win pulls the Union into a tie with the Columbus Crew for fifth place in the Eastern Conference. The loss is Montreal’s seventh straight, leaving the Impact with the worst record in MLS.

The Union return to action on Tuesday with a trip to Texas to take on FC Dallas in the U.S. Open Cup semifinals.

The Union victory was soured late in the match when LeToux suffered an ankle injury in stoppage time after being hacked from behind by Impact defender Krzysztof Krol. LeToux limped off after the match, leaving his availability for Tuesday’s U.S. Open Cup semifinal in doubt.

  1. The second goal was almost hilarious/pathetic when the ref didn’t make it back to the same side of the field to see it. The ref was a joke for both teams…so he will most likely be an MLS lifelong ref. The hack on LeToux hopefully results in Krol missing a few games and a fine from the DP. That was horrible. Absolute disgrace of a player to do that to one of the most honest/clean players in the league…and way out at midfield no less. Punk.

I do miss Justin Mapp though. Philly could really use him these days.
