For all of the LA Galaxy’s struggles this season, Robbie Keane has shown in the past week that when he’s firing on all cylinders, the Galaxy are nearly unstoppable.

Keane scored two goals and had played a role in the build up to Gyasi Zardes’ game-tying goal, leading the Galaxy to a 3-1 defeat of the Portland Timbers at the StubHub Center. Keane’s performance made him an easy choice for SBI MLS Player of the Week.

The 34-year-old put the Galaxy in front in the 73rd minute of Saturday’s match, heading home from close range after ghosting around his defender to get on the end of a Landon Donovan cross. Keane then put the game away in the 85th minute with a calmly taken penalty kick goal.

Keane beat out Nat Borchers, Lee Nguyen, Chris Wondolowski, and Michael Bradley for this week’s honors.

  1. Keane and Zardes are working very well together up top for the Galaxy right now. This is a dangerous attack going forward this season.

    • and they have figured out 3 other key pieces since the SKC game–the central defense pairing (AJ and Gonzo), the left side of their formation (Rodgers and LD), and the best usages for Juninho and Marcelo in central midfield (Marcelo up higher, Juninho behind him destroying in front of the back 4)

Juninho was the release man after Gonzo cleared to him that set up the awesome second goal, for example, that went up the Galaxy left side

    • he is a tone setter up there with his defense; like LD said after this game, the key has been the whole team defending as a unit

    • Not really sure how anyone can hate Keane.

Not a Galaxy fan…at all…he hussles and wants to win. It was interesting on the telecast after the game, it looked like the press ( NBC ? ) came up to him and he was shaking his head no. Like he wasn’t going to do the interview ? He did, but it was very short.

OK, there I hate him, like I should.
