The Colorado Rapids have been against the ropes in recent weeks, and they might have just been dealt the crushing blow.

The Rapids announced on Tuesday that centerback and captain Drew Moor has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament and lateral meniscus. Moor suffered the injuries and had to be stretchered off in the 12th minute of Colorado’s 4-2 loss at D.C. United on Sunday.

“It’s hard to remember exactly what happened,” the 30-year-old Moor told ColoradoRapids.com. “I just remember running full speed one way, and cutting really hard when (Luis) Silva cut in. My right leg was planted pretty hard and when I opened up to reach back for the ball, my right leg didn’t move and all the weight just went into my knee. It was almost as if, for a split second, I could feel my knee turn into jelly.”

The bad news comes during a rough stretch of the season that has seen Colorado fall to seventh place in the Western Conference. The reeling club has last four straight games, but are just three points shy of a playoff spot.

Moor, who joins fellow central defender Shane O’Neill on the sidelines, started and played in 23 games for Pablo Mastroeni’s side this season. Moor scored two goals and had one assist in this appearances.

What do you think of Moor being out for the season? Who should fill in for him in the the lineup? Are the Rapids’ playoff hopes all but over?

Gutted but not surprised having watched the game live. You knew immediately it was a ligament injury. My Rapids are now in deep do-do with Moor (and O’Neill) out. This is not good — not good at all. Moor is one of the most underrated CB’s in MLS and has been a rock solid, iron horse for the Rapids. With our season tanking quickly we need him more than ever, We have zero depth at CB. Watts, a d-mid, proved he was over his head after subbing on for Moor at FCD and Gale Agbossmounde, who we acquired from TFC, has been nowhere near the field this season. I hope goodness the powers that be (Paul Bravo) is on the phone trying to get a CB.

Not to mention that Wynne was awful against dc. Each year MLS gets more technical and ive been counting down the years until Wynne is outdated. He’s a nice guy, but I think his time is just about up

My two cents those baseball style cleats are a menace. Where the old moldeds with round cleats would slide, the baseball cleats are more grippy and can catch going sideways, and your knee can then twist or buckle sideways. Had exactly that happen trying to make a cut with the baseball style Puma Kings (as opposed to the classic version I’d worn before). Did my knee too.

They used to be illegal for safety reasons (long skinny cleats could cut easier), but presumably the shoe makers talked FIFA into it. I think they also hurt people making lateral cuts, after my experience.
