Report: Lampard to sign short-term deal with Manchester City

SOCCER : FIFA World Cup 2014 - Group D - Costa Rica v England

Recently signed New York City FC midfielder Frank Lampard made his name by scoring 211 goals over a 13-year career in the famous Chelsea blue.

However, with his new side, New York City FC set to debut in 2015, the 36-year-old midfielder looks like he will be heading back to the Premier League, albeit in a different shade of blue.

Lampard is reportedly set to sign to sign a short-term deal with NYCFC’s sister club, Manchester City. Man City will reportedly register Lampard for both their Premier League and Champions League rosters. Though not clear yet, the deal is likely through the end of December, where Lampard would take a short break before joining NYCFC for preseason training.

Neither NYC FC or Manchester City have publicly commented yet on a potential loan move for Lampard.

The England international reportedly rejected moves to fellow sister club Melbourne City FC, where he would have joined fellow NYCFC star David Villa, as well as EPL side Queens Park Rangers. Lampard is expected to have a deal completed in the near future with the team aiming to have the midfielder training with the team prior to the Aug. 10 Community Shield matchup with Arsenal.

What do you think of the potential move? Is moving to Man City a better for for Lampard than a move to Melbourne?

  1. I’ll believe it when I see it. Lampard is quoted as saying that he had offers in England but couldn’t stand the thought if putting on another team in England’s shirt besides Chelsea FC.

That being said I would imagine that before he signed a contract this was already ruled out.

  2. Literally makes no sense. Why didnt David Villa get a short term loan to Man City before he joined NYCFC? Plus he could have learned English that way (no idea what he will learn in Aussie-land)

why would Lampard risk his fans loyalty and love for him by playing against their rivals?

what if he gets hurt? will Ma City pay his wages during the loan?

  3. It kinda makes sense in a practical way — although how much will he play — but he has a CFC legacy to look after.

    • He’s probably happy not to play a whole lot – probably just wants to keep training and stay sharp practicing with world class players.
