The second day of the UEFA Champions League’s playoff round is set for Tuesday, with five European games headlining the day’s action.

Russian powerhouse Zenit St. Petersburg will look to reach the tournament’s group stage for the fourth straight season when they kickoff their playoff round matchup with Belgian side Standard Liege. Zenit boast plenty of talent on the wings, as stars Hulk and Danny ensure the Russian side’s status as favorites to move on to the the next round.

In other UEFA Champions League action, Scottish champions Celtic will continue the club’s first Champions League campaign under new manager Ronny Deila in a matchup with Maribor. Celtic have already advanced through two qualifying rounds, with last round’s “victory” over Legia Warsaw coming via a second leg forfeit after the Polish side fielded a suspended player.

Meanwhile, Mexico’s Copa MX features a trio of games, while MLS adds a pair of midweek contests pitting the Colorado Rapids against the LA Galaxy, while the Seattle Sounders take on the San Jose Earthquakes.

  1. Looks like Jones signed with MLS. 18 months, a bit over $4m with an option year. Either Revs or Chicago will get him, MLS will decide who and no idea how they plan to decide.

    • Ives reporting that Jones wants to go to the Fire, only the Revs if he gets paid more…which MLS isn’t willing to work out. Ives also confirming there is no allocation, so again, no one knows how MLS would decide who he went to. it should be simple. to the team HE wants to. of course, now Jones just said this:

“The rumours that I signed with mls are not right!!!”

  2. man, LA getting owned by the Rapids. that goal from Burch was sick. 3-1, 31st minute.

DC United with a disappointing performance so far, but still hanging on. 1-0 77th minute.

    • Young American watch: Marlon Hairston with his first career goal (Mississippi representing!) and Dillon Powers with the great corner on the Buddle goal.

    • Arena made 3 changes for this mid we clash in the mountains, Husidic for Juninho, Leonardo for AJ and Dunivant for Rodgers. All have struggled mightily Dunivant rusty first game back) and the Galaxy blew 3 breakaways and two other chances inside the 6.

Burch goal sick and Colorado counter has been lightning

  3. Don’t be too concerned about Hyndman’s absence, only 6 players have started every game (all 3) for Fulham. Trying to guess Magath’s lineup would baffle even Nicholas Cage in a National Treasure Movie. Magath has said a few times hoe impressed he is with Emerson.

    • But I am just realizing Fulham do have a Moussa Dembele, which confused the __ out of me. Not to be confused with Mousa Dembele, ie Clint’s teammate at both Fulham and Spurs.
