FC Dallas forward Tesho Akindele is quickly turning into the find of the 2014 MLS SuperDraft.

Akindele — who was picked sixth overall this past January — is repaying FC Dallas for their confidence in him, delivering four goals in the month August as the Hoops cruised to four wins and solidified a playoff spot in the competitive Western Conference.

The 6-foot-1 striker started out the month with the lone goal in a 1-0 road win over Chivas USA, while he also added a hat trick in a 5-0 dismantling of San Jose two weeks later. Akindele now leads all rookies with seven goals following a productive August, and it looks like he’s avoided the rookie wall, giving coach Óscar Pareja a full 90 minutes in four of FC Dallas’ five games.

Akindele’s scoring exploits earned him SBI’s MLS Rookie of the Month honors. He beat out defenders Steve Birnbaum (D.C. United), Nick Hagglund (Toronto FC), Chris Duvall (New York Red Bulls) and Harry Shipp (Chicago Fire).
